Ian and Curtis and the Old Gray Dodge

THE FILM:  Truck Farm. 48 mins

Well they’ve done it again. Curt Ellis and Ian Cheney, the 2 filmmakers that brought us King Corn have created another film about how to grow fresh, local food in dense urban environments, with a good deal of fun and quirkiness folded in. Its called Truck Farm, and its a fun one.

"The Old Gray Dodge" - the truck that has the lead role in this film is no newcomer. She played a pivotal part in King Corn - she delivered the duo to Iowa to grow their one acre of genetically modified corn, provided a resting spot to eat their fast food during the road trip, and also hauled their corn away after it was harvested. Quite an accomplishment for an old gal. But that wasn't enough. She still had some spunk left in her.

After settling into the big Apple, Cheney got an itch to grow food, but didn't have access to space to grow it in. This is a problem for many city dwellers, but Cheney had an Aha! moment - why not turn the 40 square feet of space in the truck's bed into an urban farm bed?

Truck Farm is a testament to the fact that people love growing food, and people love to laugh. Why not do both at once?
That's the spirit of the Truck Farm project: just to get people to smile, pause, and think. Where could I grow food?

A creative musical duo, The Fishermen Three, lay the 'narration' for this distinctive and unconventional film.

smart pot logoHigh Caliper Growing has donated some of their fabulous Smart Pots to giveaway.
The Smart Pot is a new approach to container gardening. Its unique advancement in container technology that is better than any other method of container gardening. The Smart Pot is a soft-sided, fabric container that has the rigidity to hold its shape and can even support large trees. In fact, the Smart Pot was originally developed for and has been used by commercial tree growers for over twenty years.

The Smart Pot is an aeration container. It has a unique ability to air-prune and enhance a plant’s root structure. A highly branched, fibrous root structure is the key to growing a better plant – with more flowers and fruits, and more resistance to insects and diseases.
